'This delicious dal and some steamed rice are all you need to make to enjoy a delicious comforting meal. Cooked toor and chana dal cooked in a spicy onion tomato masala. Serve piping hot with a generous sprinkle of lemon juice and fresh coriander and this simple feast! DAL TADKA Ingredients ½ cup split skinless green gram, soaked and drained ½ cup split Bengal gram, soaked and drained 1 cup pigeon pea split (arhar dal/toovar dal), soaked and drained 1 medium onion, finely chopped 1 medium tomato, finely chopped 1 green chilli, finely chopped 1 teaspoon grated ginger 2-3 dried red chillies ½ teaspoon red chilli powder 1 teaspoon coriander powder 1 teaspoon cumin powder ¼ teaspoon asafoetida 8-10 curry leaves Salt to taste ½ teaspoon turmeric powder 1 tablespoon ghee 1 tablespoon minced garlic Finely chopped fresh coriander leaves for garnishing Method 1. Put the three grams in a non-stick pressure cooker. Add onion, tomato, green chilli, grated ginger, add 2 cups water and mix well. Cover and cook on high heat under pressure for 5 minutes, reduce to low heat and cook again for 5 minutes. Transfer pressure cooked dal in non-stick pan, add sufficient water and cook on low heat. Add salt, turmeric powder, coriander and cumin powder and mix well. Cook till the dal is done. 2. Transfer the prepared dal in a serving bowl. 3. For tempering, heat ghee in a non-stick pan, add cumin seeds, curry leaves, garlic, dried chillies, asafoetida, red chilli powder and mix well. 4. Pour the tempering over the dal, garnish with coriander leaves and serve immediately.
